Abstract
У статті розглядаються поточні тенденції написання історії в Україні.

The article explores the current tendencies of history writing in Ukraine, and poses a question whether “urban turn” is possible in Ukrainian historiography. It is stated that western historiography of WWI can provide Ukrainian historians with necessary methodology and research tools and show how to switch from political, military and diplomatic history to the social, cultural and, finally, urban one. Moreover, the author analyzes the books dedicated to the history of numerous European cities during the war and demonstrates what kind of obstacles historians may face while trying to explain the city as a living organism in desperate times of the war. Besides, it is stressed that investigation of urban history during WWI on Ukrainian materials will not be unique. As the study of the history of Kyiv shows our predecessors began their own research of the city development already during WWI. All what one has to do is to continue those studies using the contemporary achievements of urban studies. Finally, it is stressed that currently we all live in a highly urbanized world, when a city is gradually replacing a nation, and societies are becoming more and more city-oriented than nation-oriented, at least in the developed world. Obviously, historians also have to pay attention to these tendencies and to become aware that a good urban history would be a history, in which our societies would be most interested soon enough. The article is an invitation to a wider discussion on possibilities of urban history development in Ukraine.
