Abstract
У статті представлено огляд наукових праць, присвячених опису абстрактної лексики української мови, проаналізовано основні тенденції і напрями її вивчення, окреслено проблеми та перспективи подальшого дослідження лексики з абстрактним значенням.
Description
The article reviews linguistic works that study abstract vocabulary of the Ukrainian language. It presents
the analysis of the major tendencies and directions of research in this part of lexicon. One of the most
important tendencies in studying of Ukrainian abstract vocabulary is connected with using the material
from previous periods of the Ukrainian language development. There are works that give a selective or full
description of abstract vocabulary on a specific time section of the Ukrainian language. That is why there
is a lack of research about modern Ukrainian abstract vocabulary in Ukrainian linguistic tradition. Also we
have a lot of studies that show only a derivation aspect of abstract vocabulary, while there are some other
theoretical problems in this sphere. Among these problems are searching for one general approach to
separation of lexical units with an abstract meaning from concrete vocabulary and clear criteria of semantic
classification of abstract lexical units. The article makes conclusions about the main problems and prospects
of further study of words with the abstract meaning that consist in successive research of modern Ukrainian
abstract vocabulary and finding answers to the main theoretical problem in this branch of Ukrainian
lexicology.
