Abstract
Поняття "бідність " може використовуватися стосовно широкого спектру соціально-економічних ситуацій; при цьому воно, лишаючись інтуїтивно зрозумілим, втра чає свою визначеність і стає загальною фразою. В статті робиться спроба розглянути сучасні способи міркування про бідність в офіційній, політичній, повсякденній та науковій сферах. Загальні теоретичні аспекти терміна "бідність " супроводжуються прикладами аналізу даних емпіричних досліджень. В центрі уваги головні риси бідності в Україні (диференціація домогосподарств за споживчими витратами, рівень бідності та його динаміка, вразливі групи). Крім того, авторка розглядає стратегії подолання бідності й суб'єктивне сприйняття рівня матеріальної забезпеченості населенням.It is very difficult to get an idea of what poverty in Ukraine is relying on the official data. The attitude towards this problem practically has not changed within the years of independence. And as it has been before there is no such notion as "poverty" in the official terminology, instead such notions are used more often as " the least socially protected strata of population", "low income people", "groups with scanty means". Thus people who are not aware of what is going on here may have an impression that with small exception the majority of people in Ukraine are well protected, secured and have decent incomes. This paper is an attempt to reconfigure our thinking about poverty in contemporary Ukraine. After review semantics of poverty the paper presents the main results of the first representative surveys for assessment of poverty level of people in Ukraine on the basis of international standards, including poverty profile, main coping strategies and subjective estimation of material status.
